What are your options when your wedding has been cancelled?

You’ve waited and planned for your wedding day for so long and now it’s cancelled because of Covid-19 Coronavirus.

Many establishments I’ve talked to care greatly for their couples and their families, but they’re running a business and they need to the money to survive. Understandably, the bride and groom need the money too. Some venues are offering couples a free change of date if you reschedule during a certain time frame. Many couples have lost everything they paid for their wedding and are now looking for options that aren’t going to cost much more than what they’ve already spent.

I’ve been getting a lot of calls lately because eloping is suddenly becoming a very attractive option, because of its affordability and flexibility. We’ve created a new, cheaper Mini Elopement Package for any couples booking in 2020. (Edit: We are continuing the Mini Package for 2021 bookings also!)

Yesterday, I got an email from someone who was planning to elope on the beach and that is no longer happening, so she is thinking about driving to the mountains, and getting married here in Colorado. She told me they had a few dozen guests expected, but now they want to get married with just the two of them. They lost their deposit on the venue and all of the vendors they hired.

What is an elopement exactly?

It used to mean two people running off to married, often at the disapproval of their parents.

Fortunately, it’s taken on a completely different meaning in the last few years. Now, it’s two people who love the outdoors and care about being together more than anything else, not to mention, they want to save some money at the same time!

Eloping is a glorious thing! I’d shot hundreds of weddings in Nashville, but I moved to Colorado and now I only photograph elopements. Why? Because weddings carry a lot of drama. There is always some kind of drama, because there are family members, guests, and so many moving parts… but with an elopement, the couples choose to elope because love and adventure are the most important things to them!

My couples are so much fun to take pictures of! We have a great time going on adventures and I photograph them exchanging vows in the most beautiful places!

How are we handling elopements during this time?

The regulations and restrictions for Colorado and other states seem to be constantly changing. Elope Telluride will adhere to the current restrictions in our area. Keeping our clients and ourselves healthy is super important to us. However, as soon as it’s safe to travel again, we will still be taking necessary precautions. For example, booking two Jeeps (when possible) and riding separately to their ceremony spot, and staying at a distance during their ceremony and photos, but still getting amazing pictures!

(edit: Counties in western CO opened back up to non-residents in late May/early June 2020. However most lodging is operating at limited capacity, so call and check first. Social distancing and face masks are required in many of these tourist towns. Please help keep Colorado safe!)

With the right attitude, couples can still get married and it will actually be better than they have ever imagined!

Imagine getting married with no drama or stress…. welcome to the world of adventure elopements!
