How to Elope in Telluride, Colorado: A 2024 Guide by Elope Telluride

I'm Joe Hendricks, one-half of the husband-and-wife team behind Elope Telluride, and I'm thrilled to share with you, how to elope in Telluride! If you're dreaming of an intimate elopement in Telluride, where it's just the two of you against the breathtaking backdrop of the Colorado mountains, you've come to the right place.

Telluride: Your Perfect Elopement Destination

If you've never heard of Telluride, let me paint a picture for you. This ski town, nestled in the San Juan Mountains, is a haven for couples seeking a romantic escape. The mountains are not just a backdrop; they're an integral part of your love story. Imagine exchanging vows in a place where luxury meets outdoor recreation, surrounded by the beauty of nature with no one else around but the two of you.

Planning Your Telluride Elopement

1. Obtaining a Marriage License

Planning your elopement in Telluride is a breeze. Head to the San Miguel County clerk's office for your marriage license. There’s no need to set an appointment (open Monday-Thursday). The cost is $30 (as of 2024), and you can obtain the license on the same day as your ceremony. And here's the best part – in Colorado, you can self-solemnize your vows, meaning you aren't required to have an officiant. Witnesses? Not required either, unless you count your furry friend, who can "sign" their paw print on your license as a witness!

2. Choosing a Ceremony Location

Telluride offers a lot of stunning ceremony backdrops, each more magical than the last. From mountain vistas to scenic overlooks, waterfalls to wildflowers, we've got you covered. We’ll have a Zoom consultation together, to show you location options and choose the perfect spot that resonates with your love story.

3. Weather Tips and Location Choices

Colorado weather can be unpredictable, but don’t worry – we've got your back and we’re always prepared with extra gloves, umbrellas, snowshoes and more. From snowy elopements December through March, to vibrant summer landscapes and golden fall aspens, we'll help you choose the perfect month for your dream elopement. July and August are the best months for driving to a high alpine ceremony spot, while the fall colors peak the first week in October.

4. Getting Here

Telluride is a remote town, not near any large cities. We suggest flying into the Montrose Regional Airport (1.5 hours away) or Grand Junction Regional (2.5 hrs. away). It is a 6.5 hour drive from Denver. Telluride has lots of hotels and rental properties. The ski resort hub of Mountain Village is connected to Telluride via the free gondola, which you’ll hear a lot about. If you want to explore the area, we definitely recommend renting a Jeep while you’re here. It’s perfect for driving off-road and on-road to nearby places like Last Dollar Road, Lizard Head Pass, and the Million Dollar Highway.

An Elopement Tailored Just for You

For couples who crave the serenity of the mountains without the hustle and bustle of a traditional wedding, Telluride is your sanctuary. Our elopements are about you and your love – no guests, no frills, just the two of you embracing the magic of the mountains.

So, if you're ready for an elopement experience that's as unique as your love, Elope Telluride is here to guide you through every step. Let's create a cherished memory that unfolds against the enchanting backdrop of Telluride's mountains, telling your love story in every frame. We can't wait to embark on this adventure with you!
