Winter Elopement Recap!

We know, we know….it’s June and we’re blogging winter elopements! I’ve never met a photographer who enjoys blogging…us included. So we procrastinated, and suddenly it’s summer. However, these couples deserve for their amazing photos to be shown off — so without any further delay, here is our winter elopement recap!

Lauren & Charles’ micro wedding in Telluride was threatened with an early fall snowstorm. It turns out freezing rain plus wind is much colder than just snow falling! Luckily we had several photogenic white umbrellas for them all, and pulled them out when it started raining minutes before the ceremony. A short time later, it became partly sunny with some moody, low-hanging clouds, which made for epic photos!

Shantell and Bill wanted to elope with snow, mountains and trees. We knew the perfect spot, and they had a self-solemnized ceremony in Ridgway on a beautiful winter day. Their dog Eleanor was by their side — isn’t she adorable with her puffy jacket and flower collar? Shantell wore a warm furry shawl, which is a great idea for a winter elopement! However, I think they secretly liked the cold, because they made snow angels and had a snowball fight!

Kathryn and Dallas had a micro wedding in Ouray with their immediate family. The day was snowy and romantic! We also rode around in Bruiser to a few other fun photo locations along the famous Million Dollar Highway. Their all-inclusive elopement planning package included officiating by Stephanie Warner, hair and makeup by Rachel Maier, and florals from Little Bucket of Flowers.

Chris and Heather’s photos blew up on social media because of her unique green dress — which she MADE herself! We are huge fans of non-traditional “wedding” attire, and Heather was a great example! Their Telluride photo session was actually few months after their wedding, but they wanted to re-create some stunning photos while they were vacationing in Colorado. This is a wonderful idea for anniversary photos or vow renewals!

Monica and Ray had a beautiful elopement on a sunny winter day in Telluride! Take note: her fashionable long sleeve dress, with gloves and fuzzy wrap are perfect ideas to keep warmer on chilly days! I loved Ray’s classic tuxedo too. They were a joy to photograph!

Shelby and Randy win the award for “Best Surprise” because they got engaged and married on the SAME day! Although Shelby was in on it, their kids had no idea what was about to go down. We disguised a family photoshoot that morning, where Randy got down on one knee and proposed to Shelby. That afternoon, they had a very sweet ceremony in Ridgway, CO complete with boots and hats (very Texan of them!)

Lindsey and Brian’s elopement day is one we will never forget because of the weather! As outdoor enthusiasts, they wanted to hike to a beautiful vista to exchange vows. We drove Bruiser until the snow got too deep, then strapped on the snowshoes and set out to hike about 5 miles in the warm sunshine. Just before we got to the ceremony location, snow and wind moved in out of nowhere! Through laughter, they did a quick self-solemnization, snapped some beautiful snowy photos, and then high-tailed it back down the mountain. Through it all, we got amazing, romantic photos of their snowy elopement!

Chasity and Derek have been friends of ours for a long time, so it was an honor to photograph their elopement! Joe and Derek (also a photographer) became disc golf friends about a dozen years ago when we lived in Nashville, and we all ended up living in southwest Colorado years later. We photographed their engagement photos when we were trying to build a Colorado portfolio before we even moved here! Their ceremony took place at the Molas Lake Pass area on a bluebird winter day.
